Caffiends

Caffiends is Vic’s fair-trade and organic café, operated by student volunteers (so everything is as cheap as we can make it).

A cup of coffee only costs a dollar. Our menu includes brewed coffee, espresso and espresso based beverages, hot chocolate, loose-leaf tea (made fresh from Kitimai Tea or grown right here at Vic by the Community Garden) and vegan baked cookies or bars (all natural and dairy, egg, peanut and  preservative free).

 We’re open Monday-Friday, 9:30-4:30 in VC111.

Some of these terms may be confusing, so here’s our way of looking at it:

Fair trade is a term coined by a social movement in which producers in developing countries are given better trading conditions. It’s basically a different way of doing business, governed by the principles of fairness and decency. It’s a win-win situation in which consumers can reduce poverty through regular shopping, and the traders and the environment benefit as well.

Organic foods are produced using methods that do not involve the use anything synthetic, including pesticides, fertilizers or chemical additives.

Veganism is the practice of abstaining from consuming or using any animal products OR bi-products, anything from meat and fur to dairy products and honey.

The café clearly cares about the environment, so we don’t use any take out cups– our drinks are offered in ceramic mugs, and if that’s not convenient for you, you can always bring your own. We’ll still fill it up with coffee for only a dollar.
